What is tirzepatide?

Two hormones. Twice the support.

Tirzepatide is the active ingredient in well-known brand-name medications for weight loss. Unlike semaglutide, it acts on two hormone receptors: GLP-1 and GIP.

  • Curbs appetite more strongly than single-action GLP-1s
  • Delays stomach emptying so you stay fuller for longer
  • Improves insulin sensitivity and blood sugar control
  • Boosts fat metabolism for greater overall weight loss

It’s a strong choice if you want maximum support, or if your progress has slowed on semaglutide.

Safety

Is tirzepatide right for me?

GLP-1 medications are not right for everyone. Your provider will review your full health history before prescribing. They are generally not prescribed if you:

  • Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2 (multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2)
  • Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have a history of pancreatitis, or certain stomach or gallbladder conditions
  • Are allergic to semaglutide, tirzepatide or any ingredient in the medication

The most common side effects are mild stomach issues such as nausea, constipation or diarrhea, usually early on or after a dose increase. Your provider starts you on a low dose and increases it slowly to keep you comfortable.
