What to expect on semaglutide
Weeks 1–4: Starting dose. You begin on a low dose so your body can adjust. Many people notice a smaller appetite right away.
Months 2–3: Finding your dose. Your provider increases the dose step by step based on how you feel and your progress.
Month 3 and beyond: Steady progress. Check in before each refill to keep your plan working for you.
Is semaglutide right for me?
GLP-1 medications are not right for everyone. Your provider will review your full health history before prescribing. They are generally not prescribed if you:
- Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2 (multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2)
- Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have a history of pancreatitis, or certain stomach or gallbladder conditions
- Are allergic to semaglutide, tirzepatide or any ingredient in the medication
The most common side effects are mild stomach issues such as nausea, constipation or diarrhea, usually early on or after a dose increase. Your provider starts you on a low dose and increases it slowly to keep you comfortable.
